Apu Sista is a Bombay born, commercial photographer who studied Photography in the USA. He specialized in people Photography initially, for ad campaigns and editorials. He has shot many award winning campaigns and had several magiazine articles written on him plus a few TV interviews. He has notably, photographed the 2 of the 3 Khans, among countless other celebrities from different spheres of life. He mostly made a living on people photography for Ad Campaigns and Editorials… for over ten years before tiring of it.
In 2007, having reached a natural point of closure with commercial people photography, he chose to step away from it. He became more reserved, letting the work speak for itself, and redirected his attention to hotels and resorts—an area where his broad skill set, including advanced 360° imaging, found a distinct voice. Alongside this, he has produced large-format photographic décor for private homes and office spaces. He continues to photograph people, though strictly on his own terms, paid or otherwise.
At present, he has set his camera aside and is spending time on well-earned holidays, choosing to document them primarily with his phone. During September–October 2025, he travelled through Germany and has shared a selection of images from that journey here.
For much of his career, photography meant heavy cameras, tripods, reflectors, and lighting equipment. Today, he finds himself drawn to a lighter approach—working with natural light and capturing moments as they unfold. While image quality remains a consideration, it no longer outweighs the importance of timing, composition, light, and mood. Regardless of the device used, these fundamentals remain unchanged, and experience continues to shape the outcome. Germany 2025 marks the first of what he hopes will be many such journeys.
Looking ahead, his ambition is simple: if the work feels worthy, he would like to one day present a carefully chosen set of fifty photographs in a gallery. Whether or not that moment arrives, the intent remains.
He continues to enjoy the challenge of problem-solving and is always open to helping with any aspect of photography.
PS: My fondest, deepest thanks to Kunjchechi, without whom this holiday would not have happened, far less in such style! To Zaki, Caspar, Sheehan, Anna, Ansgar and Susanne. And a very special thank you to Peter (who did more for me than I could have dreamt of… ) and Henrik… without all of whom, it would not have been anywhere near the same. It was beyond wonderful!
